Addiction Interaction

Addictions fulfill a certain need and it is important to be mindful of what function the addiction serves. People who have multiple addictions may be trying to cope with various factors in their lives that are causing them anxiety and depression.

For example, a sex addict may be seeking “arousal/pleasure,” whereas as an opiate user may be seeking “numbing/satiation.” Discovering why you may be needing to “arouse” or “numb” your feelings would be an important first step in therapy.
